Instead of becoming a teacher at the Jean Grey School, because of her worsening depression (she has like 6 dead teammates and siblings, not to mention all of the horrific things that keep happening in Marvel-verse), Paige and Sam decide it would be best for her to go home to Kentucky and take a break from active duty. Everything is OU until Schism. Everything that happened in Wolverine and the X-Men-- including her secondary mutation (the Marvel reason for her shedding/odd behavior)-- hasn't and will not happen for Paige.
When Paige is feeling extremely emotional she is still prone to broken skin and shedding but for the most part she is able to keep it together when in public. The time off has done her good but being home was a constant reminder of all that she lost. She misses being an X-Men and will probably try to go on missions with her old crew but Paige is still emotionally fragile. She has a lot of demons to battle and guilt to work past.
